With a resurgence in longboarding, The Australian Traditional Longboarding Association supports junior longboarding throughout Australia. While modern surfing is pushing to the extremes many people are rediscovering the art and joy of traditional longboarding. The versatility of the longboard enables high performance levels of surfing on the smallest, to the largest of waves. Incredible style, finesse and balance are displayed when noseriding, walking and manoeuvring the 9 ft + boards.
Each month, with different events throughout the country, men and women, young and old gather to hone their skills, challenge each other and most of all have a great, fun time. Young people are taught, supported and encouraged by the oldies who share their skills, their stories and their history. Occasionally someone may awake to find their van encased in a cocoon of gladwrap (highly unsustainable), ladies underwear hanging from their awning (highly suspicious), or their wetsuit frozen stiff in the camp kitchen freezer (no names mentioned). Win or lose surfers go home with a smile on their face waiting in anticipation for the next event ...where who knows what will happen!
